The Women’s National Basketball Association is an establishment that governs the professional basketball league for women, in the United States of America. The association was formed in the year 1996 as a counterpart to the national basketball association, but was working only for women. The playing of the league began in the year 1997. The regular season of the Women’s National Basketball Association is held between May and August, while the playoffs are played in September. Most of the WNBA teams have their counterparts of the national basketball association and they both play in the same arena. The WNBA was officially approved by the national basketball association board on 24th April, 1996. It is the first major league of professional basketball for women that got the full support of the national basketball association.
Rules:
The rules used in the Women’s National Basketball Association are similar to the NBA, but with a few exceptions as follows:
The three point line used by the WNBA is twenty feet and 6.25 inches from the middle of the basket.
The ball used by the WNBA has a circumference of minimum 28.5 inches. It is smaller by one inch than the ball used by the National Basketball Association.
There is no charge arc or block below the basket in WNBA.
Starting from the WNBA season of the year 2006, all the games were divided into four 10 minute quarters. The team that wins in the tip gets the first ball in the final period.

In the history of the Women’s National Basketball Association, there have been seventeen teams. Four teams have stopped playing since the inception of the WNBA. Two other teams moved their base to other organizations. The names of the teams in the Women’s National Basketball Association were very similar to the names of the National Basketball Association.
