The American basketball association was founded, in the year 1967. It was a professional basketball league which eventually merged with the national basketball association, in the year 1976. Four ABA teams were merged in the national basketball association, namely the New York nets, Denver nuggets, San Antonio spurs and Indiana pacers. There were two clubs namely the Kentucky colonels and the spirits of St. Louis, which were disbanded upon the merger process. One more club by the name of Virginia squires had closed shop just one month earlier. The ABA followed a very different wide-open and flashy style of play. It also followed a different set of rules as compared to the national basketball association. The ABA used a red, blue and white ball, instead of the orange ball that is traditionally used in basketball. The free style of wording of the ABA was very popular among the fans.
The ABA ALL-TIME Team:
The ABA ALL-TIME team was chosen on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the American basketball association. It consisted of the thirty best players of the ABA, in its nine full seasons of working. The selection was based on sportsmanship, contribution to the development of the league, and team leadership. Players, who had played at least one portion of their career span with the ABA, were considered for the selection process. The head coach, as well as the most valuable player was also selected.
